FLU FACTS We're fast approaching flu season and, as you know from all of the media attention, there has been much concern regarding Swine Flu (H1N1). Please keep these health tips in mind as the flu season approaches or ANYTIME! 1) Keep your child at home when he/she is sick. Your child needs to be FEVER-FREE for 24 hours before he/she returns to school. THIS IS WITHOUT FEVER REDUCING MEDICATION. Remember they are sitting in close quarters in the classroom with several other students. Keeping your sick child at home will prevent the passing of the illness to others. 2) Teach your child to cover his/her mouth and nose when they cough or sneeze. This is an easy way to prevent spread of any sickness. Have your child cough or sneeze into his/her arm or into a tissue. Any tissues should be thrown into a waste can. This prevents your child from transferring germs onto handrails, desks or tables from his/her hands to others. 3) Teach your child to WASH HIS/HER HANDS routinely. This is the best way of preventing the spread of germs. 4) Have your child get plenty of sleep, be physically active, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food. A healthy body is more able to fight off sickness. 5) Avoid close contact with people who are sick; AND, if you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick.
